Each outward passenger carrying the following items is obligated to declare to customs pursuant to the Money Laundering Control Act:

(a) New Taiwan Dollars more than NTD 100,000.

The excess amount is banned from cross-border transportation. It is suggested that the excess amount shall be converted into foreign currencies.

(b) Chinese Yuan (Renminbi) more than CNY 20,000.

The excess amount is banned from cross-border transportation. It is suggested that the excess amount shall be converted into foreign currencies.

(d) Foreign Currencies (incl. HKD, MOP) more than USD10,000 (or its equivalent) in aggregate.

There is no limitation on the amount carried after the completion of declaration.

(f) Negotiable Securities in bearer form with face value more than USD 10,000 (or its equivalent) in aggregate.

(1) The term "securities" is defined as traveler’s checks, other types of checks, promissory notes, bills of exchange, or other forms of securities.
(2) There is no limitation on the amount carried after the completion of declaration.

(g) Gold in an aggregate value more than USD20,000.

(1) An export permit issued by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) is required for customs inspection.
(2) The amount declared would be released pursuant to the permit.

(h) Diamonds, Precious stones and/or Platinum, not for personal use, in an aggregate value more than TWD 500,000 (or its equivalent)-

(1) An export permit issued by the BOFT is required for customs inspection if the aggregate value is over USD 20,000 (or its equivalent).
(2) The amount declared would be released. If an import permit is required, the amount carried shall not exceed what stated on the permit.

Note:
i) Failure to declare or a false declaration may lead to confiscation of the items or a fine equivalent to the value of the items.
ii) The limits on each item is applied independently. For example, a passenger could carry NTD100,000 and CNY20,000 without a declaration.
 

About a Family Group:

(a) The above mentioned limits applied on any individual leaving Taiwan with a valid passport. For example, a mother and her baby could carry up to NTD 200,000 and USD 20,000 in total without submitting a customs declaration.
(b) Please make a joint declaration to Customs if the aggregate amount carried exceeding the overall limit. For example, a husband and a wife are obligated to make a joint declaration if they carry USD 20,000 and AUD 5,000.
(c) One family member might carry items for all. Only by the presence of the whole family during customs inspection will the customs approve the aggregate of allowances.

Documents required:

(a) a valid passport or other acceptable travel document.
(b) a completed and signed Report of inwardoutward Passengers or Crew members carrying money laundering controlled Items.


In case of any discrepancy between the English version and the Chinese version, the latter shall prevail.
